How to Choose the Right 12-13" Box
When selecting your corrugated box, consider these factors:
Inner Dimensions vs Outer Dimensions: Boxes are measured by inner dimensions and listed as length x width x height. Add 1/4" to 1/2" of clearance for a snug fit, or 1" to 2" per side if you are adding bubble wrap or void fill.
Box Strength (ECT Rating): Our boxes range from 32 ECT (200# test, items up to 65 lbs) to 44 ECT (275# test, items 65-95 lbs). Most e-commerce shipments use 32 ECT boxes.
Single Wall vs Double Wall: Single wall boxes work for most shipments. Choose double wall for fragile items, long-distance shipping, loads over 95 lbs, or stacking heavy pallets.
12-13" Corrugated Boxes: Frequently Asked Questions
What size box do I need for shipping a 12 inch item? For a 12 inch product, choose a box with 12.5 to 13 inch inner dimensions so there is room for cushioning material. Box sizes are listed as length x width x height and refer to the interior of the box, so if you are shipping multiple items together, measure the combined dimensions and add 1 to 2 inches on each side. What fits in a 12-13 inch corrugated box?A 12-13 inch corrugated box fits most everyday e-commerce products: folded apparel, books, shoes, small electronics, gift sets, toys, kitchen items, and subscription box assortments. Common configurations in this length range include 12x12x12" cube boxes for bulky or irregularly shaped goods and 13x10x8" for flatter items. What is the difference between a 12x12x12 cube box and a 13x10x8 box?A 12x12x12 cube box holds 1,728 cubic inches and suits bulky or irregularly shaped items, while a 13x10x8 box holds 1,040 cubic inches and is better for flatter products such as apparel, books, or documents. The cube gives roughly 66% more interior volume, but the smaller footprint of the 13x10x8 usually costs less to ship because carriers bill on dimensional weight. How much weight can a 12-13 inch corrugated box hold?Standard 32 ECT (200# test) single-wall boxes in the 12-13 inch range hold up to 65 lbs, which covers most e-commerce shipments. For loads between 65 and 95 lbs, or for fragile products that will be stacked, step up to 44 ECT (275# test); for anything over 95 lbs, use double-wall board. Are 12-13 inch corrugated boxes recyclable?Yes.
